Starting from Steel: The First Step in Shickluna’s Frame-Building Future

In November 2023, our lead Shicklunatic Chris Salisbury headed to New Paltz, New York—home of Vicious Cycles—to learn bicycle frame building from two of the industry’s top builders: Stephen Bilenky of Bilenky Cycle Works and Metal Guru Carl Schlemowitz.

With a nod to the past and a clear eye on the future of Shickluna Bikes, the mission was to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to kickstart our frame-building shop. The experience was immersive and inspiring. With the guidance of Bilenky and Carl, Chris built an exceptional fillet-brazed road frame—the first of (hopefully) many more to come.

Outfitting Shickluna for frame building isn’t a project that happens overnight. 2025 will be a year of continued shop preparation, steady investment, and laying the foundation for future builds.

The frame features a sleek Gunmetal Cerakote finish, while the fork and seatpost were custom-painted by Curtis Bullock (@savethepostalservice). We spec’d it with a Campagnolo Chorus mechanical disc groupset and Campagnolo’s latest Shamal wheelset for a ride that feels just as good as it looks.
